A Great Start to the Long Weekend

Posted on

It seems like we may have given up our Saturday morning breakfast for our Saturday morning walk / hike. This morning started out pretty cool but by the end of the 6 kilometer walk it was plenty toasty out there. This was a great start to our long weekend, although technically my long weekend started yesterday. 🙂

Walk or Hike

Posted on

My husband and I have been enjoying our weekend trail walks, it’s nice to spend some time together without kids or dogs every once in a while.

We had such a great walk on Saturday we decided to find a different trail and do another walk on Sunday, so we hopped in the car and drove off to find a new trail to explore…..we found Starkey Hill.

Starkey Hill reminded me of back home, not just because of the name but it was a hilly hike through the woods, much like where I grew up and spent a good part of my adult life.

Who knew the name would be so accurate, Starkey hill is definitely a hill. The hike was great, quite the workout but we weren’t really prepared for this type of walk.  First of all it was through the woods on a dampish day….mosquito heaven. Secondly it was quite the climb and hot….no water with us. Thirdly and maybe most important, I didn’t have the correct footwear…..that’s right, I was wearing my flip-flops. My flip-flops are perfect footwear for walking on nice flat terrain but not so much for up and down hills on a trail through the woods where tree roots are sticking up all over the place. I know that because the end of my flip-flop got caught on a tree root and….you guessed it….down I went. It wouldn’t have been so bad but of course there was another couple a little ways ahead of us walking their dogs so when I fell the earth must have shaken because they quickly turned around to see what happened….embarrassing! Well I popped up quickly, brushed myself off and tried to pretend nothing had happened…but there were 3 witnesses and much knee scraping so I can’t deny my klutziness.

I did manage to take a few pictures even though my husband kept trying to hurry me along because every time we stopped we were mosquito bait.

Other than those 3 minor issues the walk hike was great, but I think we will save doing that particular trail again for the fall when it’s not as hot and there are less bugs feasting on us. Hopefully we will find an easier trail next weekend. 🙂

Before the great fall!!

A Perfectly Beautiful Saturday Morning

Posted on

What a beautiful, beautiful Saturday morning….not too hot, not too cold…..nothing to do but relax. Ok, so I guess I could do some housework, but why would I want to ruin a perfect day doing that?

After an early morning walk with the dogs, my husband and I went for our Saturday morning breakfast and then took an impromptu walk along the river to work off some of those breakfast calories and enjoy the beautiful day.

Of course what is the point in walking off all those breakfast calories if you’re not going to add some more…..we had peanut butter chocolate ice cream cones from the Boat House, what a way to end a perfect morning walk. 🙂

Happy Father’s Day

Posted on

Well 3 out of 4 is not bad……today we had 3 of our 4 children home for Father’s Day dinner. Now that they are not little kids it’s really hard to get them all in one place at the same time so if I get some of them together I call it success. 🙂

First thing this morning I took the dogs out for a walk. We did the regular loop but I wasn’t happy with how many calories my Endomondo said I burned so I dropped the dogs off at home and went for a jog to burn some more calories…then it started to rain so I cut my jog short and went home.

After I showered I woke Erika…even though I had already done that before I left with the dogs……to get up and get ready for work. I dropped her off at work and then waited for Shana to get ready to hit the Mall to get Chris’ Fathers Day gift.

We were getting him a new cell phone and considering we knew exactly what phone we wanted to get him it took us forever to actually get the phone and leave the store……we got there at 11:15am and got out of there by 12:30pm. We asked the sales guys at one point if they were going to take us for lunch since it was taking so long. Once we finally got home we gave Chris his gift and he was very excited to get a new gadget……guy thing. He loves his new Samsung Galaxy phone, very cool.

This afternoon my son Nick wanted me to cut his hair for him…..too cheap to get a real hair cut so he dropped by for a buzz cut, and stayed for dinner.

I had tried to call my dad to wish him a Happy Father’s Day but the best I could do was leave a message with my brother to let him know I had called, so while dinner was cooking my brother called me back to let me know my parents were at their place so I did get an opportunity to speak to my dad, and my mom as well (more like yell though, my dad is a little hard of hearing).

Dinner was great…..barbequed steaks and fries…..too bad it was raining a bit while Chris was trying to barbecue, at least he didn’t have to stand out in the sun and melt like usual. We enjoyed family time over dinner and after Shana and Nick left Chris and I spent the evening watching old Gilmore Girls episodes on DVD.

Chris barbecuing in the rain….shower.

Erika and Shana….hungry much?

Finally dinner is ready…..almost.

These two kill me when they are together……

Happy Dad with 3 of his kids…..and his new phone in hand.

All in all it was a great day!! 🙂 HAPPY FATHER’S DAY CHRIS!! 🙂

Happy Father’s Day!!

A Beautiful Sunday Morning for a Walk

Posted on

Lately I have been a little lazy on the weekends about taking the dogs out walking. This morning I woke up at 6:00 am to the lovely sound of Emma trying to convince us it was time to go out. I took her to the backyard and fully intended to go right back to bed but the air was so nice and cool and they were calling for high temperatures of near 30 degrees today so I decided not to be so lazy and take the dogs for a proper walk while it was still fairly cool out.

It started out a little bit foggy in places but that didn’t last for long.

I thought it was kind of cool to see the rays of sun streaming through the trees.

We had a little friend sneaking up behind us…..I noticed the dogs kept looking back as we were walking along the path so I took a look myself and was fortunate enough to get a couple of pictures before our friend headed back into the woods.

The pond had some new babies this morning.

The pond may not look like much but I love listening the sounds that come from it early in the morning….the frogs, ducks, and birds…..makes me think of home. 🙂

I am glad I convinced myself to go out this morning. 🙂

The Cambridge United under-17 girls’ soccer team travelled to Disneyworld last week and won the Disney Memorial Day Shootout at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

United played three round-robin games against Florida teams, beating Mako 94 5-0, Pinellas 5-0 and Bilca FC 6-0.

Cambridge then faced London Marconi in the final match and were crowned Disney Champs with a 2-0 win.

United has a 1-1 record during regular season play in the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL) after being promoted to the loop after winning the Western Ontario Youth Soccer League title last season.

They are the first team in United history to play in the OYSL.

Disney Soccer Pics

On May 24th my daughter Erika went to Florida with her soccer team to play in the Disney’s Memorial Day Soccer Shootout. Since we didn’t go I have been waiting to get some pictures of the actual soccer…..I have seen their “fun” pictures but finally I have some pictures of her actually playing.

Erika with some of her teammates.

Half time? or just a well needed water break?

Looking a little warm here.

Yes…..she does close her eyes when she heads the ball.

And she sometimes just needs a rest so she plays while laying down.

The results…..Disney Chimps I mean Champs!!!
